On Sunday, the Reading Musical Foundation, in partnership with the DoubleTree by Hilton Reading, will present world-famous musician, author, composer, former Nitty Gritty Dirt Band member and storyteller extraordinaire John McEuen. There will be food, games, bingo, a 50/50 raffle, silent and kids’ auction, barrel train rides, pony rides and much more. Thirty community organizations will have stands. Jammers are welcome to come and join in playing music with us. to 1 p.m., followed immediately by Dave Kline and the Mountain Folk Band, when we’ll perform a concert of bluegrass, folk, gospel and mountain music until 3 p.m. Mark’s Lutheran Church Fall Fest in Birdsboro, the Happy Dutchman will be performing with their lively brass band style of fest music from 11 a.m. You’ll be able to munch on goodies from Boyertown Masonic Lodge No 741, Chino’s Place, The Grill Shop, Smokehouse Food Truck (Friday only), Taqueria El Patron and Wow Wagon. On tap will be Chatty Monks Pray For More, Saucony Oktoberfest, Sunset Hill Brewery Pumpkin Ale, Sly Fox Helles, Tröegs Oktoberfest, Hofbräu Original & Dunkel, Yuengling Flight, Frecon Semi-Sweet Cider and an assortment of red, white and rosé wines. Naturally, a genuine Oktoberfest needs to have beer and food, and to that end Boyertown’s fest will not disappoint. “Prost” is the shout of joy at Oktoberfest celebrations and it translates as cheers, here’s to everything good. The music will include everything from oompah to oldies, with features like sing-alongs, chant-alongs, chicken dancing, polkas and even twisting. We’ll have the entire 10-piece Dave Kline and the Mountain Folk Oktoberfest Band there performing. Our Oktoberfest season begins Friday from 6 to 10 p.m., at Boyertown’s 16th annual Oktoberfest in the downtown community plaza. I feel very fortunate to be booked to entertain y’all at all three of these free community events. Talk about family and budget friendly, it doesn’t get any better than this weekend. Looking forward to this weekend, wow, you’re in luck! You can spend an entire Friday, Saturday and Sunday in our county and city and attend three fun events without having to pay a penny for admittance to any of them. Congratulations to founder John Bixler and team on another successful gathering, which brought people from all over into a rural Berks setting to enjoy the bounty of the land, the creativity of chefs and the talent of the musicians who performed at the fest both days. My new knees feel a little better every day, and they’ve carried me through a wonderful weekend of performing both days at the Bowers Chile Fest, which was absolutely packed with folks who love food, music and agritainment.Īpparently stormy weather affected many places in the county last weekend, but in Bowers it was sunny and hot, just like the peppers were brightly colored and hot.
